This session explores how effective discourse supports the science and engineering practices (SEPs) and improves students’ understanding of the disciplinary core ideas (DCIs). Participants will learn strategies that can be immediately implemented in order to enhance student discussions during scientific investigations, while conducting research, writing Claim/Evidence/Reasoning (CERs), and while developing consensus models of phenomena. Participants will walk away with the necessary resources and strategies to facilitate more small group conversations during science instruction and how to promote science discourse among all students utilizing the needed resources to accomplish this goal.
